The greater part of the work is under the general penal law — the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Indian Penal Code for matters registered before 1 July 2024. That covers offences against the person and against property, cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust, and cruelty to a married woman, from advice at the FIR stage through bail, trial and appeal.

Special statutes are dealt with alongside, including the NDPS Act, the Negotiable Instruments Act, and matters investigated by central agencies. The chamber also handles matrimonial matters — divorce, maintenance, custody and proceedings under the Domestic Violence Act — and civil disputes concerning property, partition, rent and land acquisition. Consultations are available at the chamber and by telephone, and matters are also taken up at Chandigarh and Delhi.
